Currently the status of vaccine in India is that, everyone above the age of 18 in India is eligible to get vaccinated now. Scientists, doctors and experts are telling that based on how deadly the second wave came out to be in India, it is important to get vaccinated as soon as possible. Currently as per current reports, the government hospitals are offering vaccination free of cost whereas the private establishments are charging somewhere around Rs. 900 to Rs. 1500 for each dose. That of course varies with the kind of vaccine that you are getting.

Now if you are all set, mentally, to get finally vaccinated and wondering how to register yourself for it that is the vaccine in India registration steps, then follow these simple pointers in order -

How and where to register for the Covid-19 vaccination?

Step 1. - Visit www.cowin.gov.in

Step 2 - Go to the “Register / Sign In yourself “ option.

Step 3 - Put your active mobile number in the “Enter your mobile number” space

    and click on “Get OTP”.

Step 4 - Enter the OTP once you receive it.

Step 5  - You will be required to provide identification proof (govt. ID/ Voter Id/ Adhaar etc.) Then you will be required to fill in your name, age, gender, year of birth and some other details. On a side note, you can register upto 4  people through one number. It can be your family members, your relatives or maybe even your friends.

Step 6 - Once you are done registering, close the window. Go to the website. Go to the “Register / Sign In yourself “ option. Put your active mobile number in the “Enter your mobile number” space and click on “Get OTP”. Enter the OTP once you receive it.

Step 7 - You will be redirected to a new page where your name along with some of your details will be visible along with your vaccination status. Below that you will get an option mentioning “Schedule” for your vaccine. Once you click on that you will be redirected to a new page again.

Step 8 - On this new page, you will be provided with two options - “Search by PIN” and “Search by District”. You can select either of these options to search for vaccination centres near you. The app will show you details like the location of the vaccination centre, the name of the vaccine they are providing ( COVAX/ COVISHIELD etc.) , the number of slots available and also whether the accination is paid or unpaid. You can book your vaccine according to your preference, convenience and availability.

What are the Types of Vaccines and their Availability in India?

Before you go into the process of booking your very first vaccine dose, you might be wondering what are the types of vaccines that are available around and how they differ from each other. Each and every vaccine in India like Pfizer vaccine, Covaxin vaccine, Covishield vaccine (Astrazeneca vaccine) has a different efficacy,  a different approval rate, a different dosage necessity and many more. So, to know more about your vaccines, keep reading.

COVAXIN

  • Inactivated Virus
  • This is a 2 shot vaccine.
  • The 2nd dose is to be taken after 28 days from the 1st dose.
  • It has an Efficacy of 70 - 80%
  • This vaccine was developed by India
  • It is currently available in India for everyone over the age of 18
  • It has been approved by 9 countries as of now.
  • Covaxin vaccine registration (that is the Astrazeneca vaccine registration) can be done by following the above mentioned steps.

COISHIELD (ASTRAZENCA)

  • Viral Vector
  • This is a 2 shot vaccine.
  • The 2nd dose is to be taken after 84 days from the 1st dose.
  • It has an Efficacy of 70 -90% (That is, after 1 dose 70%, after 2nd dose 90%)
  • This vaccine was developed through a joint effort of 3 countries - UK, Sweden, India
  • It is currently available in India for everyone over the age of 18
  • It has been approved by 130+ countries as of now.

SPUTNIK V

  • Viral Vector (Modified Adeno)
  • This is a 2 shot vaccine.
  • The 2nd dose is to be taken after 24 days from the 1st dose.
  • It has an Efficacy of 85 - 95%
  • This vaccine was developed by Russia
  • This vaccine will probably be available in India by the month of June

JHONSON & JHONSON

  • Viral Vector (Human Adeno)
  • This is a 1 shot vaccine
  • The efficacy of this vaccine is 70% to 85%
  • This vaccine was developed as a joint effort of US and Belgium
  • This vaccine is not available in India as of now.

PFIZER & BIOTECH

  • .mRNA Based
  • This is a 2 shot vaccine.
  • The 2nd dose is to be taken after 21 days from the 1st dose.
  • It has an Efficacy of 90-94%
  • This vaccine was developed through a joint effort of 3 countries - US, Germany
  • The vaccine is currently not available in India as of now
  • It has been approved by Majority of the countries

MODERNA

  • .mRNA Based
  • This is a 2 shot vaccine.
  • The 2nd dose is to be taken after 28 days from the 1st dose.
  • It has an Efficacy of 90-94%
  • This vaccine was developed by the US
  • The vaccine is currently not available in India as of now
  • It has been approved by Majority of the countries

Thus, as of now, the vaccines that are currently available in India are mainly COVAXIN and COVISHEILD. These two vaccines are available in private as well as public hospitals. Typically they are available mostly free of cost in the government. hospitals whereas in the private hospitals, COVAXIN costs around Rs. 1000 whereas COVISHEILD ranges from Rs. 500 to Rs. 800.
